Alan and Ngaire Smith first heard about Providence when word about the Resort was just filtering out.
Though they weren’t ready to downsize then, they signed up to stay informed about the development.
Seven years on, they became the Resort’s very first homeowners.
The couple says selling up their huge Southern River family home has been a big task but that they’re excited about the move.
“We had so much house that we didn’t need; we could have lived in about half the house, so this will be a massive change but we’re pleased we’re getting in early,” Alan explains.
“We got the pick of the sites by the Lakehouse and we have no home opposite us, so there’s a great open feeling which was very appealing to us.”
Their new home has three bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms and will still have room for guests to stay.
“The social side of being in a Resort like this is appealing,” says Alan.
“Ngaire is also looking forward to living in a more secure environment and being able to lock-and-leave because we like to travel.”
A retired handyman who’s spent many years in the building trade and is an avid golfer, Alan says he’s looking forward to spending quality time in the Resort’s workshop spaces.
“That has nothing to do with the microbrewery, BBQs or golf simulator that are being incorporated into that area!” he jokes.
Alan reckons it should be called the hobby shop haven!
